‘Tis the Season at Pillar Properties

It’s the season of giving and as a long time Northwest company, Pillar Properties is committed to giving back to the community. As part of our Pillar Passions program, we select a local organization to support each quarter.

We just wrapped up our efforts for Toys for Tots and the results were spectacular.

Each of our properties and the team at the Seattle office put together a huge effort to help ensure that children in need were supported this holiday season. We also received donations from outside companies since our properties were official drop off locations for Toys for Tots.

Our total donation for Toys for Tots this year comes to $40,000 in toys and cash.  We think that is an incredible effort and a ridiculously large donation given the size of our company.  Thank you to all of the residents and team members who helped make this effort successful!

To continue with the spirit of giving, we made sure to give our residents a time to come together and celebrate the holidays with friends and neighbors! Our properties hosted festive events to spread the holiday cheer including holiday cocktail parties, cozy holiday movie parties, and gift-wrap parties. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year.

Greenlight a Vet

At Pillar Properties we are extremely passionate about showing our gratitude to the men and women who have served our country in the armed forces.

To honor our veterans today we are part of Greenlight A Vet, a campaign to establish visible national support for our veterans by changing one light to green. Our teams changed the lights in the available homes at each of our properties to shine green as a symbol of appreciation and support.

Veteran's Day

The Meaning of Green:

“Green is the color of hope, renewal and well-being. ‘Greenlight’ is also a term commonly used to activate forward movement. The simple action of changing one light to green is intended to spark a national conversation regarding the recognition of veterans, and ‘greenlight’ them forward as valued members of our communities.”

We are so happy to be able to show our support for our nation’s veterans and we thank all service men and women for their sacrifices today and every day.

Get to Know Property Manager Sarah

We are thrilled to welcome Sarah Sandifer to the team as the Property Manager of our newest property, The Meyden. Sarah joins the team with over thirteen years of property management experience.

Sarah (1 of 1)

Sarah said she is especially excited to work for Pillar Properties. “Working at The Medyen is icing on the cake,” Sarah said. “It’s a brand new building, the best of the best.”

While Sarah raved about the incredible amenity spaces in The Meyden, she is also pretty excited about the location.  The Meyden sits right on the corner of Bellevue Way and Main Street which is almost home for Sarah.  Not only did she pursue her career on the Eastside she was born and raised here as well…she said this is the place to be, right in the heart of a growing community!

Bellevue has limitless options for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Sarah mentioned multiple restaurants and cafes she frequents in Bellevue including Trophy Cupcakes in the Bravern, Purple Wine Bar, and the Japanese restaurant, Ginza. We learned that Sarah is quite adventurous as she told us this is where she tried beef tongue for the first time…and loved it! She said, “Go to Ginza and sit in the booths in the floor, it’s a fun experience!”

Bellevue Square has just about everything to suit your shopping needs. Sarah said there are also great shops and boutiques in the surrounding areas. She mentioned other options for entertainment and recreation in Bellevue, particularly the beautiful Bellevue Park. When it comes to Bellevue, Sarah has the inside scoop!

Sarah lit up when she talked about her family, especially when she talked about her 7-month old son, Marshall. Sarah’s an animal lover and loves her 10-year-old Pekingese “puppy” Roxy. Sarah is a huge football fan, and of course roots for the Seattle Seahawks but said she enjoys watching any football.

Interesting fact about Sarah, she is passionate about cars! Her previous car even won a prize in the KUBE 93.3 car show!

A recent accomplishment Sarah is particularly proud of is completing a half marathon. She said, “I am a very goal-oriented person, once I set my mind to something I do everything in my capability to achieve that goal.”

We love that go-getting attitude! Welcome to the team Sarah!

The 12 Foundation

Pillar Passions is a program at Pillar Properties that focuses on supporting non-profit organizations. As a locally owned private family company, we want to do all we can to make a difference in our community.

In support of The 12 Foundation, The Nolo rooftop recently served as a sky-high runway to showcase Seahawk fan fashion.

The goal of The 12 Foundation is to unite the power of the Seahawks fan base to bring once in a lifetime experiences to deserving families and children in a time of need: “The 12’s to help and support fellow 12’s in need.”

The rooftop deck at The Nolo was transformed with lights and live music to showcase the glitz and glamour of Lady 12 apparel. This was the first fashion show for the line that is developed by Brendalyn and Joe Tafoya.  You may remember Joe from his days playing for the Hawks and his appearance in the first Super Bowl.  The runway also featured men’s fashion from current Seahawk Luke Willson’s Stormtech clothing line. Luke Willson is an ambassador to The 12 Foundation.

VIP seating lined the runway as local celebrities showed off this season’s hottest clothing designs! The breathtaking view from the rooftop was the perfect backdrop for the photographers waiting at the end of the runway capturing every step!

Folds of Honor

Every quarter Pillar Properties selects a non-profit organization to support as part of our Pillar Passions Program.  As a locally owned private family company, we want to do all we can to make a difference in our community.

This quarter Pillar Properties is supporting Folds of Honor in their efforts to provide educational scholarships to the family members of American service men and women who are injured or killed in the line of duty.

For the month of September we partnered with the area golf courses to support this worthy organization. Pillar Properties purchased special Titleist Pro-V1 Patriot Golf Day balls to support Folds of Honor to give to our residents when they played at the participating golf courses.

We also had events at each of our properties to support Folds of Honor. Our incredibly talented maintenance team constructed a full-size miniature golf hole for our residents and team members to putt on. All it took was a donation to Folds of Honor to test your putt putt skills! Every hole-in-one made earned you a raffle ticket to win some pretty awesome prizes including gift cards, golf gear and swag from the 2015 U.S. Open!

But of course, what’s an event without food! Our properties got a little more creative than just traditional BBQ. We served everything from Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches to a full taco bar spread to fried chicken with all the fixings! Our residents and team members had a blast putting for a great cause!

Reinventing the Seattle Waterfront

“This is a chance for us to be a great city.”

Big changes are coming to Seattle’s Waterfront. Recently Bisnow hosted Waterfront & Beyond, an event to discuss the breakdown of reworking the iconic Seattle Waterfront. We were honored that our very own Senior Vice President Billy Pettit was asked to be on the panel. Billy has been on multiple expert panels for Bisnow and was thrilled to share his insight at Waterfront & Beyond.

The City of Seattle has launched a multi-year program, “Waterfront Seattle” to ultimately build the new waterfront. According to City of Seattle Office of the Waterfront:

“The Program covers the waterfront from Pioneer Square to Belltown and includes a rebuilt Elliot Bay Seawall, new parks and paths, access to the water, places to enjoy views, vibrant public and cultural spaces, and a new urban street that will accommodate all modes of travel and provide an important connection in the city’s transportation system.”

While the new Waterfront projects bring obstacles, they also bring opportunities for development and investment.

“Downtown has not always been a great place for families to live. The waterfront development changes that,” Pettit said. Waterfront living in downtown Seattle is an added amenity to the residential experience.

Pettit spoke of Pillar Properties’ deeply vested interest in downtown and the livability of downtown. Specifically, he discussed the Stadium Place project and how it created a front door to the Stadium District. Pillar Properties believed and still believes in the long term vision of Pioneer Square. Billy tied this point in with the waterfront’s challenge of timing. Revitalizing a neighborhood takes time. Big projects that are worth doing, that change cities, take time.

Pettit also said true challenges come from the unknown. We must move past failed projects and maintain momentum with the mindset of pioneers.

More information on the topics discussed at Waterfront & Beyond can be found in the Puget Sound Business Journal.

Bruno and Bacon are already famous after being featured in their digs on Evening Magazine!
